Rich Snippet Spam Is When You Hijack
Rich snippet spam is bad because:
- This can lead to Google penalties. Google says that pages or sites that violate their structur data guides “may have a less favorable ranking.” They also apply manual actions on pages they find that contain “structured data spam”.
- This can make you ineligible for rich snippets. Rich snippets often improve the click through rate (CTR) in the SERP. This is what everyone wants and why rich snippet spam exists. But Google says a site or page can be “classified as ineligible for rich results in Google Search” if it violates the Structur Data Guidelines.

- Content angle. Do the top results have a common angle, like “for beginners” or “in 2021”? Do the same.
